FARMER GREEN'S FRIENDS- THE LORD OF THE HARVEST by Terry Jenks Matthew 9:37-38 Puppets Needed: Farmer Green & Pumpkin puppets (Farmer Green enters) FARMER GREEN: Howdy, howdy all! I'm Farmer Green and I've got somebody I want you to meet. I found a new friend out in my pumpkin patch. Come on up here & say howdy to everybody. (Pumpkin enters) PUMPKIN: Hello! FARMER GREEN: Isn't he something? I don't usually go around talking to my vegetables but... PUMPKIN: I'm not a vegetable! FARMER GREEN: You belong to the squash family, don't you? PUMPKIN: Yes, I do. But pumpkins are fruits, not vegetables. FARMER GREEN: I guess that makes sense because Mrs. Green makes a pretty mean pumpkin pie. PUMPKIN: Did you know that one of the largest pumpkin pies ever made was over 5 feet in diameter? FARMER GREEN: Now that's one big pie! PUMPKIN: That pie used over 80 pounds of cooked pumpkin, 36 pounds of sugar, 12 dozen eggs, and took 6 hours to bake. It weighed over 350 pounds when it was finished. FARMER GREEN: I wonder how many people it took to eat it and how many containers of Cool Whip they used. I know I like a lot of Cool Whip on my pumpkin pie. PUMPKIN: While we are on the subject, did you know that 99 percent of all pumpkins grown in the US end up being used as Jack-o-lanterns? FARMER GREEN: That's a lot of jack-o-lanterns! PUMPKIN: Speaking of jack-o-lanterns--how do you mend a broken jack-o-lantern? FARMER GREEN: I fix most things around the farm with a roll of duct tape. PUMPKIN: No, you fix a broken jack-o-lantern with a pumpkin patch! FARMER GREEN: (laughing) I'll have to tell that one to Mrs. Green. PUMPKIN: You sure do have a bumper crop of pumpkins this year, Farmer Green. FARMER GREEN: Yes, the Lord surely was good this year. PUMPKIN: So, the Lord is only good when there's a good harvest? FARMER GREEN: Oh, no! I didn't mean it that way. The Lord is always good. I guess what I am trying to say is that with the good rains He sent this year, I am truly a blessed man. PUMPKIN: You know, farming is a lot like sharing the Gospel. You prepare the field, plant the seed, and trust the Lord to send the rains to bring in the harvest. FARMER GREEN: That reminds me of a verse. "Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest." Matthew 9:37-38. PUMPKIN: Isn't it a pity that there are so few who are willing to work in the fields? FARMER GREEN: Yes it is. We need more who are willing to plant the seed of the Gospel in the Lord's fields. PUMPKIN: With the Lord of the Harvest promising to bring in the harvest it seems like more would be willing to share Jesus Christ with others. FARMER GREEN: I know I want to do my part. There sure is a lot of work to be done in these parts. PUMPKIN: That's where you need to begin--where God planted you. Once you are faithfully serving Him where you are, He may send you to a new field of service. FARMER GREEN: Well, I'd better get busy. There's work to be done. You know, Pumpkin, all this talk about pies & the harvest has made me a little hungry. Would you like to join me at the house for a little snack? PUMPKIN: I'd love to as long as you're not having pumpkin pie, pumpkin donuts, or pumpkin bread. FARMER GREEN:(laughing) You crack me up. Mrs. Green is going to love you. PUMPKIN: That's what I'm afraid of. If she looks at me & starts reaching for flour, eggs, sugar & a cook book, I'm getting out of there in a hurry. FARMER GREEN:(laughing) You're a funny one. I wonder how many more like you are hiding in that pumpkin patch? (as they exit)

CHOICES A PUPPET MONOLOGUE by Desirae Payne Puppets & Props Needed: 1 human arm puppet (operated by two puppeteers) ear of corn and banana, 2 puppet shirts, 2 pr of shoes, Bible, package of flower seeds, flowers Objective: to teach children the importance of making right choices SCRIPT (Puppet enters looking indecisive on what to do and notices kids) Oh hi kids. I'm trying to make some choices! Should I eat corn on the cob or should I eat a banana for lunch? Should I wear these shoes or should I wear these shoes? Should I wear a striped shirt or should I wear my other striped shirt? I have so many choices to make today. What am I going to do? Kids, did you know that you make choices every day of your life? You have to choose what to eat and what to wear. You choose to go to church or choose not to go to church. You choose to watch good things or bad things on the internet. You choose the friends you'll have. You choose to read the Bible or not read the Bible. You make so many choices every day. In fact, the Bible talks about choices. (get Bible) I love the Word of God. Listen to these verses: Isaiah 7:15 "Refuse the evil and choose the good." Deuteronomy 30:19 says God tells us that He sets before us life and death, blessings and curses and tells us which one to choose. He tells us to choose life! Every choice you make is very important. Your choices are just like seeds. That's right--seeds. You see these flower seeds? If you plant flower seeds, what will grow up? (show flowers) That's right, flowers. If you plant corn seeds, then apples aren't going to grow, but corn will. If you make wrong choices, it's like planting bad seeds and bad things will grow up in your life. When you plant right choices, right things grow up in your life. So kids, plant the right kinds of seeds & make good choices! (Puppet goes back to trying to decide as he exits)
