Large Heart Puppet
AN OBEDIENT HEART
by Pastor Terry Jenks
Ephesians 6:1-3
Puppets Needed: Sarah & Heart Puppet
(Sarah enters)
SARAH: I wonder what I should get for Mom this year for Mother's Day? Dad will get her flowers, so maybe I should get her some chocolate.
(Heart puppet enters)
HEART: Maybe I can help you, Sarah, find the perfect gift for your mother.
SARAH: Who are you?
HEART: I'm your heart!
SARAH: My Heart? Aren't you supposed to be inside of me pumping blood or something?
HEART: That would be your physical heart. I'm your inner you.
SARAH: Like I said, if you're my inner me, what are you doing out here?
HEART: I'm here to help you.
SARAH: You mean you're going to help me choose a gift for my Mom for Mother's Day?
HEART: What I have for you will help both you and your mother. You can give your mother a clean heart.
SARAH: I think I know my Mom better than you. I think I'll stick with chocolate.
HEART: Hear me out, okay?
SARAH: All right, I'm listening.
HEART: How do you act when your mother tells you to do something?
SARAH: I do what she tells me to do most of the time.
HEART: That's what I'm talking about, Sarah. When you do obey your Mom, how many times does she have to ask you before you do it?
SARAH: Sometimes I'm busy.
HEART: Too busy to obey? Did you know that God commands children to obey their parents? Children, obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right. Honor thy father & mother (which is the first commandment with promise) that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. (Ephesians 6:1-3)
SARAH: I've heard a lesson about that in Sunday School and I even memorized some of it once.
HEART: That's what I want to show you, Sarah. You have all those verses in your head, but they haven't made it to the inner you--your heart.
SARAH: So how do I get those verses from my head to my heart?
HEART: David said it best in Psalm 119:11--Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
SARAH: I have to hide it in my heart? What exactly does that mean?
HEART: That means you have to allow the Word of God to get ahold of your life. God's Word is powerful & the Holy Spirit takes the Word of God and causes it to change your life.
SARAH: You mean it helps me to become better at obeying my Mom?
HEART: That's right. God desires His children to have hearts that want to obey Him. That's why Jesus came to die on the cross to save people & give them clean hearts. You learn to obey God by obeying your parents.
SARAH: I want an obedient heart.
HEART: Now you're talking. You need to ask Jesus to give you a heart that wants to obey Him and His Word.
SARAH: Thanks heart, for this important lesson. I want to give Mom a new ME for Mother's day.
HEART: That's a gift she will cherish.
(Heart & Sarah exit)

Bible Puppet
THE AMAZING BOOK
by Pastor Terry Jenks
Puppets Needed: Sarah & Bible puppet
(The third character is a person standing out in front of the puppet stage like a pastor or teacher)
PASTOR: I haven't seen Sarah in awhile. I wonder if she is staying out of trouble.
(Sarah enters)
SARAH: Did I hear my name mentioned?
PASTOR: Hello Sarah! I haven't seen you in a few days & I was wondering if you've been staying out of trouble?
SARAH: Who me? I don't get into trouble. I've been much too busy to get into trouble.
PASTOR: What have you been doing?
SARAH: I was exploring in the church basement & I came across an amazing book!
PASTOR: What kind of book?
SARAH: Why don't I show you. I brought it with me. Come up here and meet the pastor.
PASTOR: Sarah, are you talking to a book?
SARAH: Yes, I am. I told you it was an amazing book.
(Bible puppet enters)
PASTOR: That's a Bible! The church has over a hundred Bibles.
BIBLE: So the Bible is not an amazing book to you, Pastor?
PASTOR: Wow! A Bible that talks!
SARAH: I told you it was an amazing book.
BIBLE: Doesn't your Bible speak to you?
PASTOR: Sure, but not in an audible voice.
SARAH: But this Bible does more than just speak. It takes you on adventures.
PASTOR: What kind of adventures?
BIBLE: Bible adventures, of course. How long did you say you were a pastor?
SARAH: That's why I said this is an amazing book.
PASTOR: So how does it work?
SARAH: You just turn it's pages to a story in the Bible and you somehow are transported into the pages of scripture.
PASTOR: So this last week I was reading the story of Noah & the ark. You are telling me that if I open your Bible to Genesis 6, I will be able to actually meet Noah?
BIBLE: You will not only be able to meet Noah, but he might even hand you a hammer & some nails & put you to work.
PASTOR: That is amazing! I would love to meet Noah.
BIBLE: My pages are filled with exciting adventures just waiting to be discovered.
PASTOR: Sarah, can I borrow your Bible?
SARAH: I don't know, Pastor. Today I'm going to Jericho with Joshua and tomorrow I'm heading into the Promised Land with the children of Israel.
BIBLE: What's the matter, Pastor? Don't you have a Bible of your own?
PASTOR: Sure, I have several.
BIBLE: You can find the same adventures on the pages of your own Bible. You don't need Sarah's Bible to go on an adventure.
PASTOR: I see what you mean. I think I'm going to go & open up my Bible & see where it will take me.
BIBLE: That sounds like a great idea, Pastor. Sarah, let's get going I would love to introduce you to Joshua.
SARAH: Will I get to march around the wall of Jericho?
BIBLE: You will have to open my pages and see for yourself.
SARAH: See you later, Pastor. I have a date with my Bible that I just have to keep.
(Bible and Sarah exit)
PASTOR: A date with my Bible. I like that. That sounds like a date worth keeping.
